A couple of questions. I have a 1947 Special with the 3 speed stick. The motor runs ok and is the oeiginal ( Motor number matches the title) but it runs very hot & has verry low compresion- about 80 PSI on all cyl. I have a nailhead motor out of a 59 Buick station wagon that ran very well before the car was totaled. I belive I could squeze the motor into the 47, but what about the conversion to stick? The 59 had a dynaflow on it. Will the flywheel off the straight 8 fit on the V8?

Next question- Does anyone know if it's possible to get a replacment serial number plate made? Mine was ripped in half by a long bolt that someone had put in the hood. Currently, the state of Texas ( where I live) is using the motor number to register the car. I am worried that of I swap out the motor, I will not have a valid ID number on the car.

Howdy Buick made a large and a small standard trans. The bolt pattern, trans to bellhousing is different. In 1959 you coud still get a stick, but only the large version, still enclosed driveshaft. You would need the bellhousing that fits 364-401-425. Would bolt up to the 59 eng and the large series trans for the enclosed driveshaft. The ones I've seen done quick and dirty bash the firewall back for valve cover clearance. You may need a Roadmaster driveshaft to mate the u-joint coupler. I think spec/roadie might be different couplers. Length of shaft may need to be altered becuz large and small series trans are different lengths,[the eng clutch ball swivel may end up farther ahead or behind the swivel on the frame. Northwest speed products sells bellhousings and flywheels for the 364/401/425, but the bell is for the BW/muncie 3-4sp pattern trans. If you get closer to a decision let me know I have a 364/401 to large series bellhousing and transmissions[4or5 with different length extension housings] Best Regards, Greg ps str8 flywheel won't work, 59 nailheads rely on flywheel for balance of eng, repros should have correct balance.
