Is there a 4bbl that will work on a stock 262 Nailhead or do I need to change the manifold? If so , what manifold will work?

What carb fits on that? telriv 03-28-2007, 05:29 PM Carter, WCFB, for William Carter Four Barrel. Or you could use an adapter palte & use an AFB, Aluminum Four Barrel, from a '59-'60/401 that still has the starter switch on the carb. to keep it looking & operating as original. Tom T. Just what are you looking to achieve? I will say I have no experience using a carb from a 401 on a 264. I do however remember the 850 Holley that I gave away some years ago that was given to me by a friend that tried to use it on a mild 350 Chevy. By mild I don't mean stock, he had a cam, headers, and in the vernacular of the day, pop-up pistons, but stone stock 202 heads. It was just way too much carb for it. I am sure as another here said that a manifold from a 322 would fit but its also has another @60 cubic inches to feed. I assume that you have done no head work. I am also guessing that you don't have headers. Unless you are getting many of the parts for free I personally would save my money for something else. If you are trying to make a hotrod maybe stash the money back and go looking for an entire 401 instead of its carb. But thats just me. telriv 04-13-2007, 08:13 PM For anyone who may be interested. The 322/4bbl. manifold will fit the 264 (not 262). There is a performance increase. How much, I don't know, but it was a seat of your pants feeling. I did this many years ago as a kid who knew enough to get himself in trouble MANY times. I also did an AFB with an adapter plate from a '59/401 & had a performance increase again, but this time I knew alittle more & changed jets & metering rods which made it even better. NailHeads love CFM's as has been discussed many times & I feel is no different with a 264 as it is with a 401. Whereas a 401/425 seems like it can't get enough it would probably be an entirely different animal on a 264. You can't put the Chevy in the same class. Not trying to put down the SBC, but it's a different animal with different needs. Just my nickels worth. Tom T. Tonerman 04-14-2007, 04:14 AM I tend to agree, in the nailhead the port is straighter, smaller, thus giving a higher velocity flow into the chamber. I won't argue that. But in the end we are still talking a small cube motor in a heavy car that is no such animal as say a quad cam fuel injected V8 as like my Tundra perhaps. I have no delusions that my 55 would stand a prayer of keeping up (other than on a trailer) with my heavier Tundra with @ the same size motor. If Sick is just looking for a little gain and wants a little more feel just for the sake of that it is one thing. But if he wants to start getting serious horse power I doubt that adding a 4 bbl would even get him past say Toyota Corolla with a set of headers. Might not even get him past one without a set of headers on it. How fast you want to go is only a matter of how much you want to spend. Thus my question on what was he actually trying to accomplish. |
