Hello !

Its John here with a 1950s question. How much play should be on a 1950s era horn ring? Should it be springy? The horn ring on my 55 isn't, it moves freely on the wheel. Any wisdom in this area?

Anyway, Ive been having a blast w/ my 55. Im on winter break now and get to work on it more.

One more question before I go. The rear quarter windows on the car (hdtop) are stuck in the up position. What would be the best way to get in there and fix um? I just bought a Shop Manual and it doen't give any advice on the wondows.

Happy Holidays !

John

Hi John,

I have a 52 Super Riviera, which is a hardtop like yours - nice 55 you have there! It's likely the gears are just stuck and a little Liquid Wrench and some tapping would free them up.

You'll have to take off the interior panel - just take out the rear seat and some screws and lift the panel straight up to get it loose from its connection to the body - and there's probably a screw-off sheet metal panel under the interior panel you remove to get at the gearing assembly.

As for the horn ring, mine springs back when pushed from any direction. It's not sloppy at all. Maybe I'm not understanding your question.

Happy motoring!
