Hi, my name is Rob and i have a 66 buick skylark that i want to replace the brakes on. This car is going to be all hi-po so i need good brakes. The stock drum brakes on all fours isnt going to cut it. Does anyone know of a place where i can get a disc brake converion kit at or a list of parts to make my own disc brakes for the car. Any input will be greatly appreaciated. Thanks.

66special,

While looking for parts for my '50, I ran across http://www.scarebird.com/. They appear to sell a conversion setup using off-the-shelf parts for your application, both front and rear. I don't have any first-hand experience with this company but thought I would pass on the information. I am new to this board so there may be some Veterans that have experience with this company or that have better suggestions. Good luck finding what you need.

You can use the disc brake spindles and calipers from any 68-72 GM A-body. You will need the proportioning valve from the donor car as well. These include the Tempest, GTO, Skylark, Chevelle, Cutlass and any other A-body I forgot. 67 a-body disc brake calipers are a one year stand alone 4 pistion set up that could also be used, but they may be harder to rebuild.

You can also get the later G body spindles to work with the A-body. The G-body spindles will give you better performance, but the conversion will be more expensive. Here (http://www.globalwest.net/1964-72%20A-BODIES.htm) is a link to more information about the G-body spindle swap.
