It may be able to get as low as 7 mpg, but that would be in a city with a heavy foot trying to leave as much rubber at every light as you can! If that's what its getting just driveing it, there is something wrong that you can fix!

What's your rearend ratio? I have a 2.73 in my '73 Regal w/stock 455. I was getting about 10mpg but changed my distributor, wires and plugs and got 13 mpg. Then I adjusted the timing to 36* total and rebuilt the carb. Now I get about 15 mpg on mixed city and freeway driving.

I receive up to 14.5 mpg highway with my '71 Centurion convertible. Since I live in a rural area I cannot tell you a city based mpg. However, 5 years ago we drove our '72 Centurion from the Tahoe area to Seattle and back with 3 days of touring in Tacoma and Seattle. We received 13 mpg for that journey. It is difficult to drive conservatively with that much power at your command but I did it:beers: to see what the car(s) would get on mpg.

Depends on a lot of factors, but I would say 12 city, 16 highway (with a light foot)

I'm going to do that same thing to my car, but did you swap out the old coils when you did the distributor?

Swapping the coil isn't hard, won't hurt anything, and is cheap. While you are tuning up the rest of the ignition, might as well do that.

Hello,

We have the 400 turbo tranny with a 2.73 gear and 28.5 inch tall tires and it gets about 15 mpg average. This car is heavy it is a 4 door sedan which weighs 4,050#. I am not sure what yours weighs but that would also be a factor.

Good luck and I hope you enjoy driving yours as much as we do!

Big Bore engines Don*t get very good Fuel milage! I Dono? about Your Quoted 7 miles per Gallon? that seems a bit Low to Me? but in reality Don*t Exspect to get over 12 at best my opinion? I yrs ago having worked in a Hi Pro Shop back when Fuel was a lot Cheaper than Today! GAS serves two purposes in any Engine--ONE lots of GAS equals More Power! but TWO GAS also Cools the Piston on the Compression Stroke & when YOU tune an engine for Hifuel milage YOU have to be really CAREFUL--as YOU can Starve the GAS Cooling process -by-tuning the Carb too Lean! & possibly?? Burn UP Pistons? a NOTE! all most all of the NASCARS we see on TV w/ Engine Failures Are caused by the Above!--My expearance w/ the 455 engines in proper fuel & as good Milage as Possible I*D say 10--12 MPG is about Right! in daily driving! On long trips Turn Pike driving--it could be a bit better? say close to 14? MPG but Don*t Exspect Hi Fuel milage w/ any 455! as its just NOT going to Happen! but If You are Careful? ENJOY! as YOU know! YOU can Whip those Chevys & Fords if You want Too? at the steet light! & when That comes UP! Who cares about Fuel Milage? as Thats Why your Driving a 455 Right? GO get E*M! Ole JIM
