I currently have a '49 Super Sedanette and a '64 Electra 4-door. The '64 is for sale, but I'm not getting much interest so I am starting to think about keeping it as a donor car for upgrades to the '49 and part out the rest. The drivetrain is is good shape ( only has about 30k on the rebuilt 401 ).
'IF' I were to swap the Nailhead for the Straight 8 in the '49, how much of the '64 could I use? Rearend? Powersteering? Powerbrakes? A/C? Some of the ideas I've been thinking about are:
1) '64 Nailhead with '49 Dynaflow
2) '64 Nailhead with the ST400 trans and '64 rearend
3) '64 nailhead with a modern trans and the '64 rearend
What do you guys think?

I have almost the same thing, an open differential 1962 Electra with a 401 and a dynaflow and am thinking about changing the whole frame under my 53 as the wheel base is very close (125 1/2" to 126') but have not checked the width yet. Then if I could bolt the Ford AOD up to the engine it would make a nice unit.

My '49 is a Super so the wheelbase is only 121 inches verses the 126 on the Electra.

Anybody?
Advice? Opinions?
It's not like I'm suggesting putting a Shevy SB in there.......

I have a '50 Super 4dr. sedan body on a '65 Wildcat complete chassis.
401, SP400, 10 bolt 3.08 posi. The hard part was done when I bought it.
I've had it about a year and a half. I get tons of comments from people who are suprised to see the Nailhead. The car has tons of power and is plenty quick! Looking at the way the body is mounted to the chassis, it appears that only minor modifications had to be made to a couple of under-floor cross supports and the installation of a few other small brackets to get this together. If shortening the '64s frame isn't a choice, perhaps a shorter wheelbase frame(Wildcat or early Skylark) is possible?
My '50 is a pretty good fit (wheelbase) onto the '65 Wildcat.

Thanks for the reply Chris.. I hadn't even considered shortening the 64 frame... I'm not equipped to perform that kind of surgery, but that doesn't mean I can't get it done. I'll have to take some precise measurements and see how close it is.

That sounds real nice. I sure would like to see some pictures of the bottom of your car and around the front inner fender area.

Anybody know if the '64 Nailhead would bolt up to the '49 Dynaflow? ( or will even fit between the frame rails? )
